Introduction
At Heyes Lane Primary School we believe that physical activity, sport and high quality PE are essential parts of a broad and balanced education. The Sports Premium funding allows us to enhance our provision so that all pupils develop active, healthy lifestyles and positive attitudes towards sport and physical activity.
What the Sports Premium Is
The Sports Premium is additional government funding provided to primary schools to improve the quality of PE, school sport and physical activity. It is designed to help schools make sustainable improvements that support pupils’ physical development, wellbeing and academic attainment.
Our Evidence Informed Approach
We use Sports Premium funding to embed long term improvements in PE, sport and physical activity. National guidance highlights the need for schools to use this funding to create sustainable change, enrich provision and increase participation for all pupils.
How We Use Sports Premium Funding
High Quality PE Teaching
We invest in staff training and professional development to improve confidence, knowledge and skills in delivering PE. This ensures that teaching is consistently high quality.
Increasing Physical Activity for All Pupils
We provide opportunities for pupils to be active for at least sixty minutes each day through high quality PE lessons, active breaks and a wide range of extracurricular sport.
Enrichment and Wider Sporting Opportunities
We offer a broad and inclusive range of sports clubs, competitions and physical activities so that every pupil can find something they enjoy. This includes equal access for boys and girls and targeted support for pupils who are less active.
Creating Sustainable Improvements
Funding is used to build capacity in the school such as improving equipment, developing resources and creating lasting improvements to PE and sport provision that will benefit pupils for years to come.
Raising the Profile of PE and Sport
We ensure that PE and sport contribute positively to whole school improvement by promoting active lifestyles, celebrating achievements and supporting pupils’ personal development.
Our Aims for Sports Premium Pupils
Improved physical health, fitness and wellbeing
Increased participation in daily physical activity
Greater confidence, resilience and teamwork skills
Access to a wide, inclusive range of sporting experiences
Long term enjoyment of sport and active living
Monitoring Impact
We evaluate the impact of Sports Premium spending through pupil voice, activity tracking, assessment of PE outcomes and participation data. National guidance requires schools to publish an annual report demonstrating how the funding has been used and the difference it has made.
Eligibility and Allocation
Most primary schools receive this funding based on the number of pupils in Years One to Six. Schools with seventeen or more eligible pupils receive a base amount plus an additional amount per pupil.
